Our SME client is a materials technology business based in Basingstoke is seeking a Business Development Manager to join the team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced business development manager or commercial manager with project management experience to undertake a pivotal role in a fast-growing high-technology company.

The successful candidate will report to the Operations Director and will be responsible for the commercial development of the business, including the creation of strategic partnerships and contractual relationships, increasing product awareness and identifying opportunities for business expansion, so as to produce long-term value for the company. In addition, they will be responsible for preparing bids to win new business, including grant funding applications, as well as negotiating and agreeing new contracts. They will be involved in the formulation of the Company’s business development strategy in collaboration with senior management.  

This is a wide-ranging remit that provides a unique opportunity to shape the commercial development of an innovative, dynamic and fast-growing technology company. It includes elements of marketing, business management and customer liaison. The position would suit an individual with strong commercial or sales experience who is keen to move into a role with a strategic element. The successful candidate will require some knowledge and understanding of materials technology and applications engineering, so an engineering background, or willingness to learn, are essential. The ideal candidate would be a self motivated, entrepreneurial individual, with the drive and ability to seek innovative solutions that maximise the return on investment of the Company’s ground-breaking technology. He or she must be a good communicator, willing to travel, and available to start as soon as possible. 

The role will generally be based at the Company’s offices in Basingstoke, but the role will include travel to clients’ premises, either in the UK or overseas.
