Our client is a family office, set up to assist the activities of a private family trust owned group of companies with substantial assets. 
This is a new and pivotal position that offers an outstanding opportunity for a focused individual to gain a valuable insight into the workings of a Family Office. You will be based at the office in West Oxfordshire, working directly with the Principal/CEO, other directors and outsourced services providers.  The book-keeping/accounting, tax management, fund management, trust accounting, company secretarial and legal requirements of the Group will be provided by outsourced professional firms. 

Principal responsibilities as Family Office Controller will include:
·         Coordination of the relationships with the outsourced providers to ensure effective and appropriate services provision
·         Ensure the smooth running of the Family Office which will amongst other things provide a payroll and perform an accounts payable service;
·         In conjunction with the outsourced providers, production of quarterly management reports for the Group companies and the investments they hold.  This will include a non-statutory consolidated report of total assets and commentary thereon and the preparation of investment analysis for the outsourced investment advisors;
·         Group Treasury function, specifically treasury and cashflow planning and management, to ensure liquidity as required in all parts of the structure whilst complying with tax structuring and legal requirements.  This will include the coordination of and funding for family distributions from the trusts in the future;
·         Initiation and approval of transactional services provided by third parties: payments; payroll; investment acquisition and disposal; insurances, etc.
·         Coordination of tax services.  Whilst tax activities will be provided by third parties, the candidate will need a good general knowledge of all taxes (corporate, personal and VAT) and must have the aptitude to understand and coordinate tax activities (and the associated treasury flows) inherent under a multi-jurisdictional tax structure;
·         Overseeing and coordinating investigation/appraisal of (and due-diligence on) new (unquoted) direct investments and investment managers, followed by hands on integration of these investments into the company structure;
·         Similarly coordinating disposal of unquoted direct investments;
·         Provide hands on support for ad hoc requests from the Principal/CEO;
·         Management of risk within the Group, including all insurance arrangements.

KEY ATTRIBUTES
Possessing a strong financial skill set, you will be an experienced qualified accountant, with experience gained in a business environment. Direct experience of a Family Office is not a key requirement, but the aptitude to learn quickly what such requirements are is essential.  Key competencies required for the role include:

  • Good problem solver and communicator, efficient, independent, diplomatic and innovative with a high level of discretion and confidentiality;
  • A person of unquestioned integrity in a business where confidentiality and discretion are essential;
  • Broad based and general financial and business skills.  The ability work independently to turn your hands to many things and to be ‘hands-on’ in approach within a small, closed-knit team;
  • Experience in cash-management and treasury leading to experience with on-line banking systems, bank reconciliation, cash flow forecasting, treasury management and reporting etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel;
  • Team-player, customer-service driven and people orientated, preferably with experience of working in cross-border teams;
  • Flexible, positive attitude with an enthusiastic approach to work.

Location: West Oxfordshire
Salary:  to £80K FTE (£48K for 3 days)
Flexibility:  3 days a week (3 consecutive weekdays eg Mon-Weds or Tues-Thurs)
There will be a requirement for occasional, planned overseas travel
